In February 2010 AFC Fylde confirmed it will benefit from ambitious plans from Sports Charitable organisation called 'The Haythornthwaite Sports Foundation' (HSF) to re-locate to a new Greenlands Sports Village. The 26 acre site, located on farm land just outside Wrea Green,  was purchased by David Haythornthwaite who has a vision to providing a Community Sports Facility consisting of a 3G Full size pitch, outdoor playing fields for local junior sports clubs in the area, a Full Size Hockey AWP and a new ground for AFC Fylde which will also include community facilities ie Community Hall. The proposed facility will be located on the outskirts of Wrea Green close to the A583.

Public Consultations took place in Wrea Green and Kirkham on the 18th and 19th February 2011 and following the consultations all feedback from local residents, the wider local community on their thoughts on the proposal which gave them an opportunity to provide new ideas and comments on what they would like to see from this new leisure concept.

A number of local sports clubs and associations also expressed their wish to become involved in the project who will potentially benefit from such a facility and all content and feedback will be analysed to determine the feasibility for the project.

Update May 2012

Over recent few months architects, sports solutions and representatives of key stakeholders have been working on a masterplan for the scheme which was submitted to the Fylde Borough Council in August 2011 and this is set to be heard nby the planning committee in February 2012. The committee hearing was eventually planned for the 4th April 2012. There was strong support for the scheme by AFC Fylde fans and those voting in favour of the scheme but equally the 'people' of Wrea Green were also well represented. The plans were rejected by the majority of the voting councillors on the planning committee at this meeting but one councillor stated that should an appeal take place a third party would make the decision and there will be no 'emotional' attachement to the scheme. In principal all councillors said a scheme of this nature was fantastic for local sport but was deemed in the wrong location in their opinion. Greenlands is now pending an appeal later this year.
Update September 2012

Chairman David Haythornthwaite released a statement on 18th September 2012 advising supporters and the local community that they had now abandoned their plans to pursue an appeal for the Greenlands site after careful consideration and now they have identified alternative sites to consider for submission of a planning applciation by December 2012.

Updates on the development will appear on www.afcfylde.co.uk as soon as we have the information.
